Dear Unicorn Families!
As
I was counting the children, after picking them up from after lunch recess, I
wondered how many other teachers around the country currently worried about
keeping their kids hydrated based on the amount of sweat running down their
face. I have faith that we will cool off
soon, but I think we have a bit!
This
week was another busy week in the Unicorn class. Have you heard your child mention the word
schema? We are working on connecting
what we know to our books to better understand what the book is talking
about. It is one of the comprehension strategies
we will work on this year. Next week we
will start an author study on Mem Fox.
The word work and writing lessons this week overlapped some. We started our word work on -ap and -at
words. We discussed how you can find
them in single and multi-syllable words.
We practiced kid spelling and how we stretch out words. We also continued discussions on small moment
stories. Next week, we will talk about
elaborating details when we write our small moment stories. In math, we introduced some new math games
that continued their practice with the addition of numbers to 12. New math classes start today. There will be updates on both classes in the
newsletters to help keep you informed.
Picture
day is September 13. Our time slot is
usually in the morning, so if you want to send a change of clothes for after
pictures, please feel free. Pictures
will be after specials. Please remember
to send your child in running shoes on Tuesday and Friday. Mrs. Dover keeps the children very active and
we want your child in appropriate shoes so they are safe.
The
4th and 5th grades have organized a collection of items
(not cash) to donate to world care for hurricane victims. We will have a bag in the classroom to
collect the items if you are interested in participating.
I
hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.
Mrs. Berk
