Dear Unicorn Families!
Can
you believe we have had 5 full weeks of school so far? I am not sure that I can believe it. When I look around the room, I see children
reading on their own for over 15 minutes at a time and writing for close to 20
minutes. When I see this, it reminds me
how much time has passed this year.
Many, but not all are still working on not talking when an adult or
classmate is talking, or not starting conversations when there is a pause in
discussions. We will continue to work
with this as well as building relationships in the classroom. We are working as a group with the counselor,
Mr. Francart, as well as with small groups when necessary.
This
week we continued our discussion on healthy vs. unhealthy choices. We discussed food choices, screen time and
general nutrition facts. In reading, we
continued our discussion on connections and started reading books by Mem
Fox. We will be using her books to
explore parts of a story as well as connections between us and the books. We will also make connections between
characters in the coming weeks. We
continued our work on phonemic awareness and word patters of -am and -ad. We continued discussions on what a small
moment story is. I modeled the
difference between a personal narrative that covered a larger event and a small
moment. Then we wrote about small
moments from our specials to write as a group.
Please
remember that headphones are due by Monday, September 18th. Your children will not be able to start
computer activities until they have headphones at school. If you are not able to purchase a pair of
headphones, please send me an email.
Thank
you for calling the office or sending emails when there is a change in the end
of the day procedure. It is very helpful
to have that email trail for me to rely on.
Picture day was successful. We
had all 25 students at school. If you
would like to order pictures, you may order online. Please remember that wearing running shoes is
important for safety on P.E. days. This
week was our last Friday Library time.
Next week we will not have library because of book fair set up. We will visit the book fair on Wednesday,
September 27th. Please look
for the book fair information in your student’s bag today. We will start our regular Wednesday library
time on October 4th.
