Dear Unicorn Families!
It
was wonderful to see all that came to curriculum night. I loved being able to talk about what we will
do this year and show off all they have done in the classroom so far this
year. Each day is a new adventure and I
love coming to school to spend it with your children. I put out times for conferences in October at
curriculum night. If you did not get a
chance to see it, feel free to stop by the room in the morning to sign up for a
time or email me times of day that are good for you. Conference days are October 9, 10, and
11. Today we went into the garden and
picked the gourds that my students from last year planted for the students this
year. The children are so excited to
have them in the classroom.
Here
are a couple of pieces of general information.
Today will be our first library visit.
The library is being used as a classroom temporarily. This does impact our regular Wednesday time,
so we will visit the library every other Friday until we can go back to our
regular schedule. We are hoping that
will be soon. I will keep you
updated.
We
continue to work hard on building routines.
We are building our stamina on reading to self and writing so that they
can work independently while I work with small groups during language
arts. In reading, we began discussions
on what active readers do and what is schema.
We are discussing this to build their connections and understanding of
what they read. When talking about small
moments stories, we talked about different ways to start a story about yourself
and words they might use when transitioning between sentences. Math continued with parts your child needs to
have when solving a word problem, comparing numbers and attention to precision
when counting forwards or backwards. In
our health unit, we continued to talk about interpersonal relationships. While we will continue this topic throughout
the school year, we will move on to healthy bodies, germs and exercise next
week.
One
last reminder, we are collecting box tops in the classroom. There is a red box on the counter near the Hissing
Roaches. The FFO collects a couple of
times a year, so please feel free to send them in whenever you have some. Thank you for your support.
I
hope everyone has a fantastic three-day weekend. See you all on Tuesday.
Mrs. Berk
